India recently witnessed a bizarre smuggling case! Surabhi Khatun, a 26-year-old air hostess with Air India Express, stands accused of smuggling gold leveraging her position. Upon arrest, she was found to have approximately 960 grams of gold concealed in her rectum. This marks the first instance in India’s history of a flight crew member resorting to “rectal smuggling”. Following the incident, Surabhi’s personal Instagram account has also been shut down.
According to reports from “Today India” and “Press Trust of India”, the Indian Tax Intelligence Bureau acted on a tip-off, intercepting Air India Express flight IX 714 at the airport and promptly arresting Surabhi. Subsequent search revealed the smuggled gold within her rectum.
It is understood that Surabhi hails from Kolkata and has previously succeeded in smuggling on multiple occasions. This time, during a smuggling attempt from Muscat to Kannur, she was apprehended due to a leak in her operation. Surabhi admitted that each successful smuggling mission yielded her a commission and has already disclosed her accomplices to the authorities. Presently, she is detained at Kannur Women’s Prison awaiting trial.
